70th birthday

My husbands Aunt turned 70 this month and we all chipped in on a piece of jewelry for her but I wanted to make a few cookies to give to her as well. So this is what I did. Some flowers, cake, and a present.

Funny tidbit...... in this picture you see smaller tulip cookies, well I made these the same day I did the St. Patrick Day cookies. Well after I had mailed out the Saint Paddy cookies (to a prize winner) I looked at the cookies for Aunt S. and noticed that I had the mini coin shamrock cookies and mailed out the tulip ones by mistake. Oops oh well.  :)

I really liked the cake one this time, I liked the candles.

Hootin Easter

Saw a cute owl with bunny ears on it and thought what a cute idea for a cookie. I like the one the right a lot more than the left also thought the Easter bunny could bring some spring owls instead of chicks this year.

Couple of eggs.

Some cute little birdies.

Some flowers of course.

And a couple of lambs because the real reason for Easter is to celebrate Jesus Christ's resurrection and he wants to bring salvation to all of his flock.

This weekend I hope you all have an enjoyable and inspiring Easter.

Crossfit Bride

Got a message on FB asking if I could do some bridal shower cookies for a Crossfit bride which would be a part of a open house for the gym the bride works out at.

The shower theme was "bells and rings". I thought it would be cute if there were some brides lifting kettle bells and holding onto the rings. This is what I ended up with.

Then more of just the kettle bells and the rings.

Hearts with their initials and the gyms logo.

The whole platter. I sure hope that the party went well. Thanks Britta!

Clive and Javier Cake

My friend Michelle had a birthday last week and she has a little fascination with Clive Owen and Javier Bardem. So when Michelle's besty asked me to make her a cake I knew I needed to do something with these two men.

I had different thought rolling around in my head and thought I could just print out their pictures on sugar sheets but since had a little bit of plain sugar sheets on hand I thought I would see if I could do it my self. So I chose a couple of pics on the internet and then pulled them into Photoshop  I then used the stamped overlay and then projected the image on the sugar sheet and traced out the black outlines then I filled them in with and edible felt marker.

Please tell me that they kinda of resemble the real guys. :)

I sadly had to be out of town the night of the celebration but I hope the girls that were there celebrating had a great time and enjoyed the cake.

I made a red velvet cake with white chocolate cream cheese frosting and decorated with modeling chocolate.

Happy Green Day to You!

Happy Saint Patrick's day! I hope you all have a wonderful day. Here are the cookies I made for this year.

I saw some cute Holiday clip art and I was drawn to the the Leprechaun legs and did a sort of variation of Sugarbelle's Halloween witch legs she did a couple of years ago.

Some cute mushrooms.

And some cute birds.

Hope you have a lucky day!

Cake #3- Bridal Shower

My sister in law threw a bridal shower for my niece Emily last saturday and I asked if I could help and I was told I could bring a salad or a treat. I chose to do a treat and since I was doing two other cakes last friday I figured I would make another.

I got my inspiration from the invitation.

To make it simple I just bought a sugar sheet with damask already on it then cut it in half and applied it to the buttercream, then just cut out a silohette of a bridge and groom in modeling chocolate and it was good to go.

I forgot to add the rose in the picture above, but you can see it in the one below with my beautiful niece posing with the food. I think the rose on the brides hair really made it cute.

Cake #2 - Owl Birthday Cake

This was cake #2 that I did last Friday. A lady contacted me on my facebook page and asked if I could make a cake for a surprise birthday party for her sister. Her original cake person back out.

It was an owl themed party and so this is what I did. I saw this design from Julie of Blue Cupcakes on Flickr and used it for the top tier and then just came up with the bottom tier.

Birthday girls favorite cake is angel food cake but that would not have held up to the Swiss Meringue Buttercream so we did a vanilla cake with raspberry filling decorated in modeling chocolate.

I hope that that Brey enjoyed her surprise.

Thanks Kerstin.

Cake #1 & Cookies - Lalaloopsy

Friday was a busy day for me I decorated 3 cakes and some cookies. This is #1 of 3.

My previous neighbor called me a couple weeks ago and asked if I could do a Lalaloopsy cake and cookies for her daughters 6th birthday. She sent me a picture of what she was looking for and the cookie picture I knew immediately was Sweet Sugarbelle's creation. I knew I could do the cookies no problem thanks to Caylee's tutorial on them found here.

I simplified the cake design she sent me into something I knew I could do.
I was quite happy that I got sharper edges on this cake than I have in the past. I took Jessicakes tutorial recently on craftsy.com and it was a great help.

This was a chocolate cake with vanilla SMBC, which I used for the first time and it was really easy to work with but I think ganache would be better to get razor sharp edges. I covered the cakes with homemade marshmallow fondant and used modeling chocolate instead of fondant for the decorations it is way easier to work with!

I think it turned out cute.

The cookies are pretty darn cute if I say so myself.

I hope that Izabel had a great birthday and thanks to Myrna for the order. In the other pictures I forgot to but the ribbon on the cake so here is a shot with it on.

Bridal Shower for Kelli

My good friend, Kelli, is getting married in two weeks and I got to host her bridal shower last week. I worked all week on the decor and making almost all of the food for the refreshment table. It was fun and a little stressful, but it turned out well and most important Kelli's friends came to celebrate her getting married to the man she loves!

First off lets look at the cookies, of course there would be cookies. This collage I did for the purpose of Lila Loa's challenge to photograph cookies in a new way. I always takes pictures with just a white back ground so this time I used green tissue paper. I think they actually look good maybe I will try other stuff more often.

When I saw Sugar Nosh Treats post her easy way of airbrushing a lace design, I knew it would be perfect to do for the lingerie cookies I planned for the shower. These larger ones I made as party favors for each party guest.

I also made some smaller cookies to have out on a platter. I saw some bride and groom cookies on the web some where a month or two ago and I thought it was such a cute idea. I have been trying to find those pics again but have not been able to find them so if you know who did them let me know so I can give them credit.
When I saw Mycakeschool.com's Billy Balls cake tutorial I knew it would be perfect. This is my chocolate version.

The next pictures are from my basement family room, where the light is not the best so they don't look so hot.

Party favors.

Cookie platter.
Yummy mini chocolate coconut cake balls.
Butter mints.
Savory side, Pioneer Woman's bacon appetizers and prairie sushi. Mozzarella tomato basil skewers were furnished by my friend Kim and I was so thankful for her help and they were so good, and I was so happy to polish off the leftovers! Oh and tucked behind the skewers was the drink, it was pineapple mint water. It was so delicious. No sugar just flavored water. I loved it!

The burlap, green and white scheme looked really good together and thanks to my friend Kylie, she let me shop through her house and borrow some of her decor and serving dishes for the day.
